Super Bowl 58 provided a thrilling overtime matchup as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 Sunday night.

Patrick Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP after delivering another huge performance for the Chiefs. Mahomes notched 333 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the night, also collecting 66 yards on the ground.

Tight end Travis Kelce was his favorite target on the night as he collected 93 receiving yards. Mahomes targeted Kelce 10 times and he brought it all but one of those passes.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy posted a respectable performance with 255 passing yards and a touchdown, but his first Super Bowl performance wasn't enough to dethrone Mahomes.

The special teams game proved vital in the matchup as both teams looked to their kickers in big moments. Turnovers also played a factor as the 49ers opened the game with a fumble and Patrick Mahomes threw an interception. The Chiefs also had a fumble of their own.

After a thrilling four quarters, the game went into overtime, marking just the second overtime in the history of the Super Bowl. The 49ers, who got the ball first in overtime, were held to a field goal. From there, Mahomes led the Chiefs 75 yards down the field to win it on a touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman Jr.

Mahomes didn't have the start he was looking for. The quarterback couldn't get Kansas City's offense going in the first half, and it left the Chiefs with a 10-3 deficit to overcome at halftime. Things didn't get much better for Mahomes in the second half, as he threw his only interception of the postseason on the opening drive in the third quarter.

From there, he turned things around.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first touchdown of the game in the third quarter, finding Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a 16-yard touchdown to take the lead and spark Kansas City's offense. On the Chiefs' final drive of regulation, Mahomes led them down the field to set up the game-tying field goal.

After the 49ers struck first with a field goal in overtime, the Chiefs were looking to Mahomes to deliver again, and he did just that.

While facing a fourth-and-one on their own 34-yard line, Mahomes took a designed run for the first down and more to keep the Chiefs' season alive. He then completed five straight passes to lead Kansas City down the field and into 49ers territory.

On a crucial third-and-one situation, Mahomes once again used his feet, this time picking up 15 yards and getting the Chiefs into the red zone. A few plays later, he delivered the game-winning pass to Hardman.

Mahomes didn't have the best first half, but he more than made up for it in the second half with a veteran performance to win his third Super Bowl and his third Super Bowl MVP.

Jake Moody lined up a 55-yard field goal early in the second quarter of the then-scoreless game. The 49ers kicker was looking to put his team on the board, and a make would be the longest field goal made in Super Bowl history.

Moody drilled it through the uprights, setting the stage for what would be a huge day for both kickers.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker notched his first of several field goals in the second quarter, cutting into the 49ers lead to make it 10-3 going into the half. In the second half, Butker broke Moody's young record for the longest field goal made in a Super Bowl, drilling a 57-yarder to make it a 10-6 game.

After San Francisco and Kansas City exchanged touchdowns, Butker made another field goal to tie the game up. Moody drilled a field goal on the next drive to give the 49ers an edge and give the Chiefs one last possession.

Kansas City once again called upon Butker, this time in the season's biggest moment. Butker delivered, drilling a 29-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, Moody made another field goal on the 49ers' first drive, but ultimately it wasn't enough as the Chiefs found the endzone.

At the end of the night, Butker finished with four field goals and Moody ended the game with three.

The 49ers were dealt a tough hand in the injury category as several big names suffered injuries throughout the game.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw suffered an unfortunate Achilles injury in the first half that kept him out of the remainder of the game. Greenlaw was gearing up to take the field after a kickoff when he went down with the injury.

In the third quarter, wide receiver Deebo Samuel went down with a hamstring injury while running a route, though he was able to stay in the game. Samuel's speed and ability were certainly limited after the injury, though, and he finished the game with just 33 yards on three receptions.

Star tight end George Kittle added to the list of injuries for the 49ers in overtime when he went to the locker room with a shoulder injury, and he finished the game with just four receiving yards.
